In 2017 we became one of the first providers to be powered by 100% renewable energy - no vague carbon offsets, just a direct relationship between our datacentre and Ecotricity to power the facility with energy generated by 100% renewable sources.
Having achieved this, many companies would then feel justified in putting their feet up, content that they’ve “done their bit” to advertise greenness, and continue with business as usual.
In our eyes, achieving carbon neutrality of our electrical energy usage isn’t the end goal, it’s the barest minimum first step. The planet is fast-approaching a global disaster, and merely being able to say that as a business we’re not actively making that process worse is wholly inadequate.
This is why we’re always looking for new initiatives to contribute to both lowering carbon emissions and actively work to improve the environment beyond simply negating our business footprint.
In order to meet the UK’s commitment to reach net-zero emissions and end its contribution to global warming by 2050, businesses around the world must play their part. As a web hosting company, we are all too aware that data centres require a tremendous amount of energy, which is why we work hard to not only achieve carbon neutrality of our electrical energy usage, but to make sustainability a central part of our operational approach.
We use Ecotricity for our power, the first company in the UK to offer true 100% renewable energy.
All power consumed at our Netwise datacentre facility uses 100% renewable energy and have achieved a PUE rating of 1.12.
We want to start creating a path to a cleaner future, so we're working with Trees For Life and Ecologi to plant trees in the Scottish Highlands.
Going beyond our everyday business operations, we offer a staff incentive scheme to help them make the switch to 100% renewable energy at home.
We’re working with some amazing organisations to cancel our carbon output and help fund climate-saving projects around the globe.
We work with Ecologi to fund Gold Standard sustainability projects and the planting of carbon-cancelling trees all over the world. To kick off our partnership with Ecologi in style we planted 100,000 trees in our very own Ecologi grove...and we plan to plant many many more.

We’re proud to be making regular direct donations to Trees for Life, a charity based in Scotland that’s working to rewild the Highlands with natural forests and so far we have planted 19,120 trees in our grove.
Rather than simply planting rows and rows of uniform carbon-capturing but otherwise ecologically destructive trees, Trees for Life is a long-term effort to restore and extend natural forest habitats providing both a carbon sink and a healthy wildlife ecosystem.

We’re also proud to be founding members of the Million Tree Pledge. The Million Tree Pledge is a collaborative initiative bringing together businesses and individuals to make a bold, two-part commitment:
Our aim is to have 1000 pledgers (1 billion trees pledged) by the end of 2021, with the goal of getting to the tens of thousands of pledgers in the next few years.

As a member of the SME Climate Hub, we’ve made an internationally recognised climate commitment as part of the United Nations Race to Zero campaign to halve our emissions before 2030 and achieve net zero emissions before 2050.
The SME Climate Hub also provides access to best-in-class tools and resources to help develop our climate strategy, measure and reduce our emissions and the emissions in our value chain, and learn about complementary carbon offset projects.

Our own environmental efforts are only the tip of the iceberg however, and we’d love for you to join us.
Take the first step
There has never been a better time to consider switching your own energy usage to a 100% green supplier! Real momentum is building in renewable energy generation and the cost of 100% renewable tariffs is now often cheaper than standard tariffs provided by the Big 6!
Make the switch
If you want to join us in becoming green and you're interested in making the switch to a renewable energy supplier for your home or business, you can get a quote from Ecotricity via the button below.
We plant trees!
When you join Ecotricity they'll pay us a one-time £30 referral fee for all signups (per fuel, so if you sign up to gas and electricity then we get £60). We do not keep any of this money. 100% of all referral payments we receive are donated (in addition to our own donations) to Trees for Life. Every referral payment we receive directly funds the planting of 5 trees. That's enough to sequester approximately 1.25 tons of carbon from the atmosphere!
Every person in our organisation has their future carbon footprint offset – simply because they work at Krystal. This not only includes time at work and any business travel, but also any carbon footprint they’ll produce outside of work too.
To achieve this, we’ve enrolled all 50+ of our remote-working staff in monthly climate positive subscriptions with Ecologi, a Bristol, UK-based climate organisation. Each month that subscription plants 12 trees and offsets 1 tonne of CO2 per employee. We’ve also elected to plant an additional tree in the UK per member of staff each month...just because.
